Muscle relaxants

Content

How do muscle relaxants work?

Very small amounts of muscle relaxant are used per treatment (Botulinum Toxin type A) injected into the muscle. The drug stagnates the transmission of stimuli from the nerves to the muscles, causing the muscles to relax temporarily and muscle twitching to cease.

What are muscle relaxants used for?

Muscle relaxants are used in aesthetic medicine to correct disturbing expression and mimic wrinkles. These are caused by frequent facial expressions and are often noticed between the eyebrows (frown lines), on the forehead (forehead wrinkles) and next to the eyes (crow's feet or laugh lines). Also some lines in the neck, folds under and dimples in the chin, drooping corners of the mouth, vertical wrinkles around the mouth, nose wrinkles and a drooping nose tip can be treated quickly, safely and extremely efficiently with a muscle relaxant.

In addition, muscle relaxants can also be used to tension headache to soften or even excessive sweating (also called hyperhidrosis) in the hands and feet, for example.

Procedure

By means of very fine injections, muscles are temporarily weakened, which greatly reduces expression and mimic wrinkles and makes the skin beautifully smooth again. Your face looks relaxed as a result. The treatment takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

Complications

The side effects of muscle relaxants are minimal when performed by an experienced physician.

How long does the result last?

Muscle relaxants work only locally in and around the injected area. The effect is temporary and lasts for about 3 to 6 months.
