What is a buttock augmentation?
A buttock augmentation, also called a buttock lift, is performed using an implant or the body's own fat.
Procedure
If an implant is chosen, silicone implants are used. The implants are placed inside the gluteal muscle. All implants that we use have a 10 to 15 year warranty.
In addition to implants, autologous fat transplantation or lipofilling can also be applied. During this procedure, we use liposuction to remove fat tissue from places where it is stored, such as the thighs, abdomen and hips. After treatment, the fat is suitable for lipofilling. We inject small amounts of healthy fat into the tissue that needs to be enlarged. In certain cases, a natural-looking, lifelong enlargement without scars can be achieved. In other cases, lipofilling can be used as a supplement to a smaller implant so that a more natural and long-lasting result is obtained.
Indications / contraindications
This technique is suitable for everyone. Lipofilling can be a good solution if you want a safe, lifelong result without scars. Of course, you must have some fat tissue that we can use. We prefer liposuction of the side because this gives a better contour of the buttock. If there is no usable fat present, an implant is considered.
Preparation
- Quit smoking
- As a lipofilling If it is indicated, a special lipo panty must be ordered (by us or by you)
Intervention
For a buttock augmentation, we recommend an overnight stay at the clinic, especially if you have to travel far. With lipofilling, the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with a sedative or under general anesthesia. When inserting implants, we prefer general anesthesia.
Recovery
- Wear lipo pantyhose for 3 to 4 weeks
- After lipofilling, avoid all pressure on the buttock area for 3 weeks
- 3 weeks no sports
- After the operation you may experience a heavy (pressure) feeling in the surgical area, this is normal.
Complications
- Short term — Bleeding or hematoma may occur during the first 24 hours after surgery. As with any surgery, a wound infection may develop. An infection that requires removal of the implant is extremely rare.
- Long term — The silicone shell has a special surface that allows the surrounding tissue to adhere well to the implant (encapsulation). This is a normal process that keeps the implant in the correct position. In the long term, this capsule can contract like scar tissue (capsular contracture) which changes the shape of the buttock and can sometimes cause pain or discomfort. The smaller the implant is in relation to the existing tissue, the less likely this is to happen.
