What is a Mommy Makeover?
A 'Mommy makeover' combines several surgical procedures that primarily correct the upper and lower body, such as the borsten, belly, Hips en thighs.
This procedure owes its name mainly to women who experience many physical changes after pregnancy and/or breastfeeding. For example, volume loss can occur in the breasts and they can sag a little more; abdominal muscles can be stretched to such an extent that they no longer provide support; the skin around the stomach area can be excess and slack, etc. Quite drastic and it is certainly understandable that it does something to your self-confidence.
A Mommy makeover often involves two procedures being performed at the same time, such as a tummy tuck in combination with a breast augmentation and/or breast lift.
Procedure – How does a Mommy makeover work?
- During an initial consultation, a tailor-made treatment plan will be drawn up for you and your wishes and expectations will be discussed.
- On the day of the procedure, the necessary notes will be made on your skin.
- The Mommy makeover is performed under general anesthesia, which means you will stay in the clinic overnight.

Abdominoplasty
- An incision is made around the navel on one side (which releases it from the surrounding tissue) and an incision is made under the bikini line from hip to hip on the other side.
- The skin tissue is then loosened from the underlying muscles up to the rib cage.
- Slack abdominal muscles are stitched together. This is also called 'reefing'.
- The loosened skin is then pulled down to the incision below the bikini line. Excess tissue is removed and the incision is carefully sewn closed.
- The repositioning of the navel is done by means of a small hole in the skin. The navel is then stitched into it.
- Sometimes a scar around the navel can be avoided.
- All steps of this procedure can be found here here.
Breast augmentation
- This can be done using implants or lipofilling. With an implant, a small incision is made under the breast in the future breast fold.
- The implant is then inserted in front, behind and partly behind the pectoral muscle. During your first consultation, we will discuss which placement will give you the best result.
- All steps of this procedure can be found here here.
Breast lift
- Using the anchor method, three incisions are made:
- around the areola,
- from the lower edge of the areola vertically downwards,
- horizontal in the natural curve.
- Then the skin is loosened from the underlying tissue.
- The breast tissue is then moved upwards and the excess skin removed. The operation can optionally be combined with the placement of a breast prosthesis.
- All steps of this procedure can be found here here.

Recovery – What to Expect After a Mommy Makeover?
- You will stay one night in our clinic for observation. Only after approval from the surgeon and anesthetist you may go home the next day.
- Try to arrange transportation; driving yourself will not be possible after all of these interventions.
- The first few days you will experience pain, a pulling sensation and stiffness around the operated areas. We advise you to take two Paracetamol tablets (500 mg) every four to six hours for the pain.
- Swelling and bruising will occur and may even worsen during the first few days. This usually subsides after day 3.
- Scars will be red and swollen. These will take a long time to calm down, which can take anywhere from half a year to a year and a half.
- Give your body plenty of rest and avoid heavy exertion, lifting, hoisting, sports, etc. at all times during the first 3 months.
- Once your wounds have closed and the scabs have disappeared, you can start applying a nourishing and disinfecting scar cream (twice a day).
