In order to successfully plan your Body Surgery, there are a few steps you will need to take. You may need to have pre-operative tests, plan your travel, and so on. Once you have completed these necessary steps, you can prepare for your stay and start packing! All that remains is to undergo the surgery itself and follow our post-operative instructions carefully while you recover.
Planning your surgery
Mandatory to arrange
Once you have received your Body surgery quote, you will receive login details to access our patient platform. There you can arrange the following:
- Anesthesia form — Complete the anesthesia form on your account.
- Preoperative tests — Only for operations under general anesthesia if explicitly requested.
Preoperative tests
Please note: preoperative examinations or tests will only be necessary if we see reason to do so based on your completed anesthesia form. These are the possible tests that may be requested:
- Electrocardiogram — Only necessary if you are over 60 years old and are having surgery under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with deep sedation. Please upload the report to the patient platform at least one month before the surgery, so that we can prepare and assess the situation.
- Blood test — A blood test is only required if you are over 60 years old (or if we see a reason to perform a blood test based on your completed anesthesia form). A blood test can be performed in the clinic.
These tests are NOT included in the price. All these tests must be arranged by you in your own country. Your GP can help you with this. The results must be uploaded to your account on our patient platform. The blood test and ECG must not be older than 3 months. They are extremely important because the anaesthetist cannot administer general anaesthesia without this anaesthetic.
Planning your stay in Belgium
- Duration and typical stay — 5 to 7 days after receiving your deposit you will receive a document with all your appointments in Antwerp.
- Transport/travel to Belgium — Belgium is very easily accessible.
- Your stay in our guesthouse — For patients of Dr Bart van Nimmen, the stay in our guesthouse is usually included in the quote. Some patients of Dr Maarten Doornaert will have to book their stay in our guesthouse themselves. On the quote you can check whether the stay is included or not.
Informed consent
During your preoperative body surgery consultation we will ask you to informed consent from Dr. Maarten Doornaert to sign before the operation. You can take a look at it now so there are no surprises.
Preoperative instructions
- You will receive an email with a list of 'do's and don'ts' for your surgery.
- Make sure that at least one finger or toenail is free of nail polish for the surgery the next day. This is necessary to measure your oxygen saturation correctly.
Postoperative instructions
We will provide you with the postoperative instructions at the clinic.
Pay the full amount for your surgery
The operation date will be reserved for you for a week. Without payment within the set period, we will reopen the operation date you have chosen to other patients. We therefore ask for a prepayment of the full amount to definitively reserve your operation date.
Change of booking / Cancellation after payment
- If you cancel/change more than 30 days before the date of the operation, you will lose a standard lump sum of €500.
- If you cancel/change less than 30 days before the surgery date, you will lose 50% of the total surgery costs.
- If you cancel/change less than 1 week before the operation, you will lose 100% of the total operation costs.
Please note: we do not accept VISA. The operation fee must be paid by bank transfer or cash.
